I am so grateful to be included here and so enraged for you at the labor required for you to capitalize on your writing even a tiny bit. Substack continually positioning themselves as a bastion of free speech and independent reporting while not allowing the same access to capital gains to all publishers is WILD and so tone-deaf to the values they perpetuate. Sending you so much love as you find what is right and works best for you.

I am so grateful to be on the receiving end of your writing, and I know I am better for it. Though we don't have the means to support financially, I will continue to uplift your beautiful and important paradigms and cheer you on from the other side of the world!! Appreciate you, my fierce friend. ❤️❤️

I’m so honoured you included my testimonial. I’ve been thinking of you a lot these days. Your phantom fury piece comes up a lot for me, reminding me that even my rage that wants to burn down the world has a place where it can be held. Thank you so much for being present to your readers in such kind and wise ways. I’m looking at PayPal options now, and wishing you a sustainable path.

I wish Substack would add UPI/Google Pay option for payment. Because I have tried upgrading and for some reason my debit card was rejected. I was trying an international payment through Substack however, usually when I'm trying to pay, the payment page shows me either Euro symbol or Dollar. This is the only time it showed me rupees. But again, the card details is such a turn off.

Veenita I am so stoked that you loved my work enough to go through just such tedious process in order to pay me. Although there is no direct UPI integration with substack since substack is still big and more popular within USA-UK writer's community, I have added my QR code at the end of the post for my steadily growing reader base from India. You can check that out in case you are intent on supporting my work.

Hi. Yes I checked it. Will you please let me know how much should I start with? Is it the same amount monthly/annually as mentioned on the "Upgrade" paywall? And will I be able to read the "paid" posts through that?

Expand full comment

Yes you will be able to access all the paywalled post. Just let me know once you upgrade, I shall comp you off accordingly.

Hello. Please check your Google Pay. I have made a payment. For now, this is the same exact amount the Substack showed me on it's Upgrade page as monthly payment. I have also sent a message on Google pay.

Hi Veenita, yes I received it. This is subscription amount for one month so for now I am upgrading you to the monthly tier which will expire on the same day next month unless you continue the subscription. Thank you so much for believing in my work.

Your generosity here is incredible, my friend. I am honored to be in your thoughts at all, much less among the time and care you took to include your beautiful “why” for each recommendation. So much love to you.

This is just too high a praise my friend. I am just that good old humble friend of yours who loves the Earth enough to make efforts in order to deserve the gifts that she so generously offers. And also it fills my heart to know that I am on the receiving end of the adoration you freely choose to spend. 💜🥹

Swarna, I'm honored that you chose to include my piece, especially in such wonderful company. I love the beauty of your writing, the perspective you bring, and your values that show up so clearly on the page.

I'm disappointed that Substack and Stripe remain so unsupportive of you and so many other voices that need to be heard.

John, the honor is mine. Thank you for being the lighthouse that you are! I am so grateful to be in your company and of rest of our friend’s too.

I really hope substack starts looking at this payment issue. I had to get a sole proprietorship incorporated in order to function smoothly and receive payments through paypal too but not every writer from India would be able to turnaround such massive roadblocks.

I am honored to be included in your recommendations, Swarnali.

And that is so frustrating that Stripe throws up so many obstacles to users in India. Ugh. I hope the PayPal strategy helps to bring well deserved subscription income back to you again.

be well!
