Welcome to my new short series The Last Matriarchy!

Chapter-1

Matrilineal kinship womens health - Among the ethnically Mosuo community in China, some groups are matrilineal, meaning inheritance passes from mothers to their children rather than from fathers to sons.

Although they are recognized as a minority by the Chinese government, the Mosuo women have successfully established themselves as one of the last matriarchs living in Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces in China.

The self-sustained Mosuo community is primarily based on agriculture and animal husbandry. The local economy tends to be barter-based, which is changing due to constant influence from the outside world.
